The key to Pitlock™ is the well thought out securing mechanism that makes it nearly impossible for thieves to remove your parts. The free-rotating housing protects against twisting with pliers. If you're thinking that a pair of needle-nose pliers will do the job, then think again.
First, the coded nut is deep within the outer housing and is bevelled to make it impossible to grab. Second, an ingenious lock-ring (itself meshing with the axle) meshes with notches on the underside of the coded nut to lock it in place once tightened. The only way to release it is with the PITLOCK™ key which slides all the way down the coded nut and compresses all of the teeth at once to allow the nut to rotate.
