Twice the winner of What Mountain Bike lock reviews, the Granit X-Plus 54 borrows many of the features of it's mega tough brother, the Granit Extreme 59.

The parabolic 13mm square section shackle is produced from hardened steel, making it massively resistant to cropping and twisting. The square cross-section presents 20% more steel versus a round cross-section.  The proprietary steel used by Abus (who controls the entire supply chain) stands up to cutting and grinding attacks better than the standard, mass-produced hardened steel used by competitors.

The Abus City Chain Granit X-Plus is the ultimate chain for all round bicycle security. The innovative city chain is built around a multi layered, integrate hardened steel lock body with powercell technology and the Abus's X-Plus locking mechanism.

The hexagonal section 10mm hardened steel chain includes a “Powerlink” which fits directly into the lock body for extreme resistance to torque/pulling attack.  The benefit of this final, specially-shaped link (looks like a pinched-in number eight) is made of the same hardened steel as the rest of the chain and is the same size.  This avoids the pitfall of some other chains where the final attachment link is the weak link (so to speak).

It is worth mentioning that Abus owns and controls the entire supply chain for their proprietary hardened steel.  It stands up to cutting and grinding attacks better than the standard, mass-produced hardened steel used by competitors which requires significantly larger diameter links and a higher overall weight.  The City Chain is rated by Sold Secure and ART at their maximum ratings.  That's a good thing.

The Abus Bordo Granit X-Plus 6500 is essentially the right way to execute what has been a failure by other companies: Make a lock that can compactly fold up for transport while retaining a high degree of security. There's a reason for this. Abus didn't skimp on materials or fabrication cost. In fact, this Granit X-Plus version of the original Bordo design is awarded Abus's highest bike lock rating (15), right up there with their City Chain X-Plus and the Granit X-Plus 54 U-lock. 

Each Bordo link arm is produced from proprietary hardened steel, making it resistant to cutting and twisting. The pivot points are massively over-built and surrounded by the same steel. The locking cylinder is Abus's X-Plus Sold Secure-rated Gold-level 8-disc cylinder with 1 million possible combinations. 

The useable length of the lock is 85cm, making it appropriate for any locking situation. To protect your frame's paint job, each link is coated in a layer of silicone. This has the added benefit of keeping it snug and quiet when folded up for transport in the included frame-mountable pouch.
